IT Application Specialist - Advanced Apprenticeship - Level 3

Is the course for me?

The apprenticeship is made up of qualifications and learning that will provide apprentices with the skills and knowledge required to become competent in their chosen job role. The framework is designed to support employers in closing the IT Application skills gaps in their organisations.

This framework provides the apprentice with the competence, skills and knowledge to work effectively and efficiently with IT systems, communication and productivity tools and software applications. This includes the creation and amendment of many types of formatted information including documents, diagrams, spreadsheets and presentations. It also includes maintaining simple websites, using the internet to find and exchange information and using social media to disseminate information.

What will I learn?

On completion of the apprenticeship the learner will hold the following qualifications:

· Level 3 Diploma in IT User Skills

· Key Skills Communications Level 2

· Key Skills Application of Number Level 2

· Key Skills ICT Level 2

· Employment Rights & Responsibilities (ERR) – this will inform the apprentice about current employment legislation that is appropriate to their role.

The Apprentice will:

· become competent in the use and application of the particular systems and software required in their job role;

· develop skills to enhance their personal and team effectiveness through the application of IT;

· gain an insight into the wider use of IT across their organisation;

· provide support and assistance to colleagues to make effective use of available IT systems and software;

· develop, test and implement solutions to improve workplace productivity through the use of IT.

The qualification requires the apprentice to complete 3 mandatory units for the Level 3 Diploma:

  1. Improving Productivity using IT

  2. Understanding the Potential of IT

  3. Develop Personal and Team Effectiveness

The apprentice will also be required to choose from an extensive range of optional units to achieve enough credits. These units include:

· Word Processing Software

· Spreadsheet Software

· Database Software

· Presentation Software

· Using Email

· Using Internet

· Bespoke Software

What are the entry requirements?

A minimum of 5 GCSEs (C or above), including Maths and English (or Adult Literacy and Numeracy Level 2 or successful completion of a Level 2 course with Functional Skills Maths and English).Applicants who do not meet these entry requirements will be assessed on an individual basis by the Curriculum Manager and Curriculum Director.

How will I be assessed?

Assessment is by a combination of product evidence, observations, professional discussions, witness testimonies, personal statements and question and answer sessions.

There is no formal examination for the IT Qualification, however candidates may be asked to complete a Key Skills examination.
