These new qualifications are designed for staff who are working in, or looking to gain entry to roles in Quality Assurance. They replace the current V1 Internal Verifiers Award which expired in December 2010.
These new units and qualification will provide people who carry out quality assurance in their organisation with the opportunity to develop and improve their practice as well as achieve a professional qualification for the role. They have been developed for those working in accredited learning, non- accredited learning, the NQF and the QCF.
The Internal Quality Assurer Awards are at a Level 4 (2 Awards and 1 Certificate) and consist of a mix of units –competence-based and knowledge based:

Award in Understanding the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice - Level 4 (1 unit – 6 credits)
· This is a knowledge-only unit (ie Understanding the Principles and Practices of Internally Assuring the Quality of Assessment) and is for those who are interested in or need to know about internal quality assurance but who are not carrying out quality assurance themselves, eg experienced assessors or centre managers.
· You will attend a workshop and complete an assignment in order to prove your knowledge and understanding.
Once in a quality assurance role you could undertake one of the following qualifications:
Award in the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice Level 4 (2 units – 12 credits)
· This award is designed for practitioners who conduct internal quality assurance of the assessment process from within a centre or organisation by sampling, monitoring and advising on the practice of assessors.
· You will be required to complete the above and show that you have monitored and quality assured the work of two assessors.
· You will attend workshops over the period of your course and undertake a series of meetings and reviews with your portfolio assessor in order to plan the collection of your evidence and compile your portfolio.
· Candidate internal quality assurers will also be observed monitoring and feeding back to their assessors on their practice.
Certificate in Leading the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice Level 4 (3 units – 17 credits)
· This award is designed for practitioners who lead the Internal Quality Assurance process and have responsibility for managing the quality of the assessment process. They may also develop systems and lead on visits from outside agencies such as awarding organisations.
· You will be required to complete the above two awards and also plan, allocate and monitor work in your own area of responsibility.
· You will attend workshops over the period of your course and undertake a series of meetings and reviews with your portfolio assessor in order to plan the collection of your evidence and compile your portfolio.
A minimum of 5 GCSEs (C or above), including Maths and English (or Adult Literacy and Numeracy Level 2 or successful completion of a Level 2 course with Functional Skills Maths and English).Although there are no formal entry requirements, you must have experience of working as an Assessor prior to undertaking these qualifications. Also, you must be working with two assessors, each with a minimum of two learners of their own.
Please note that the Certificate qualification requires you have responsibility for members of the assessment team.

You will attend 5 x 3.5 hour workshops and then meet on a one-to-one basis with your accredited assessor who will give you guidance, assess your evidence, (Processes and Practice).
Assessment of you is through observation, oral questioning, examination of product evidence, witness testimony, and Professional Discussion between you and your assessor during which you will be expected to make reference to all the IV documentation held in your IV files (as identified above in the 12 credit and 17 credit qualification
This award will eventually form part of a full framework of qualifications for quality assurance personnel.
