The Certificate for Working in the Health Sector is ideal for learners who are working in the health sector already (including cleaners, maintenance staff, administrators, catering staff, doctors, porters, health care assistants and nursing staff), who wish to support their professional development. It is also ideal for those who are considering a career in the health sector.
The knowledge on the course is mapped to the NHS Knowledge and Skills Framework and gives learners the opportunity to investigate a work role within the health sector. The course will enable learners to recognise the importance of effective communication in the workplace. Learners will develop an understanding of heath and safety and quality standards. The course will also help them to identify personal development needs and issues surrounding equality and diversity. There are 6 units to this qualification:
Unit 1 Communication skills for working in the health sector
Unit 2 People and personal development in the health sector
Unit 3 Health, safety and security in the health sector
Unit 4 Service improvement in the health sector
Unit 5 Maintaining quality standards in the health sector
Unit 6 Equality and diversity in the health sector
A minimum of 4 GCSEs (D or above) including English or successful completion of a Level 1 course with Functional Skills Maths and English).Applicants who do not meet these entry requirements will be assessed on an individual basis by the Curriculum Manager and Curriculum Director.
Candidates will be provided with the course materials for the programme and will be required to work through a series of tasks and activities designed to reinforce the learning process and test their knowledge. This qualification is internally assessed with the candidate completing a portfolio of work that covers all the learning outcomes of the qualification.
The programme will enable candidates to further their own continuous professional development, improve career prospects or progress to further training or qualification in health and social care.
